Our diabetes prevention and care programs aim to enhance access to diabetes treatment and promote prevention in both clinical and community-based settings. We provide services and education throughout the reservation in multiple communities and at numerous venues, including the use of our mobile unit. Focus areas include weight loss programs for adults and youth; infrastructure to promote physical activity; and access to experts in nutrition and physical activity.

Benefits to the Community Diabetes complications are among the leading causes of death and disability in many Tribal communities. Our diabetes prevention and care programs aim to improve outcomes that will lead to healthier futures for our community members. Comprehensive diabetes treatment and prevention activities have resulted in improved diabetes care and clinical outcomes on reservations and in urban clinics. Men and women with diabetes are working to control their blood sugar, blood pressure, and cholesterol levels. Those with pre-diabetes are losing weight to prevent diabetes through regular physical activity and healthy eating.
